They Come to Play, 2018

They Come to Play documents recurring figures that appeared at WJP’s bedside over a period of four years. Returning night after night, their presence became familiar without becoming less unsettling. These five drawings record what he saw, translating a private nocturnal experience into physical evidence. Drawing became a way to externalize the fear, giving form to what had previously existed only in the darkness and making the recurring experience more bearable.
