Kikai extends WJP’s exploration of identity through a figure without a past, physical body, or fixed reality. Moving through cinema, art, fashion, and internet culture, she inhabits familiar images to construct a life of her own. By using an invented person as both subject and medium, WJP examines where authorship ends and identity begins, and how little reality is required before an image becomes someone.
